Spanish Acro Convention, Acrocare service.
Acrocare provides support to people who might experience uncomfortable or violent situations with others related to their gender, race, ethnicity, or sexual orientation. Acrocare also wants to address the forms of violence that are specific to the Acro Community dynamics, such as those related to people’s physical attributes or their level of skills. These situations can either unfold during workshops, jams, training, but also while socializing in general.
-
Where does Acrocare emerge from?
We believe that Acro, as any other community, is a representation of society and therefore is affected by the discrimination that exist nowadays towards certain social groups. For this reason, such discrimination must be addressed accordingly rather than excused or not looked at. The principles of Acrocare are developed from a feminist perspective.
-
What are the principles of Acrocare?
-
Women and LGTBQ+ people have the right to feel free from fear and insecurity because of their gender in any public space.
-
All society is jointly responsible for addressing any kind of violence, as it is a collective problem that affects everyone.
-
In cases of sexual violence or any other kind of violence, priority attention will be given to the person assaulted.
-
The organization will show in all cases, in a manifest manner, its rejection towards any form of aggression or violence that may occur during the convention.
-
In all cases, the organization will ensure that the assaulted persons are not blamed. This implies not questioning their behavior, appearance, or account.
-
All cases will be treated with the utmost confidentiality, preserving, above all else, the identity of the person assaulted whenever they so wish.
-
The will of the assaulted persons will always be respected when it comes to directing the approach to their case, taking into account the existing legal limits.
-
Sensitivity and care are the foundational principles of this service.
-
What kind of service can I look for?
-
Awareness-raising, by participating in an activity offered at the venue and having conversations around it.
-
Support. You can come to share your experience, which sometimes is all we need. We will be open to hearing your story, be it recent or old, and keep it in confidentiality.
-
Intervention. When the assaulted person wishes so, measures will be taken by the organization in order to preserve their comfort. At Acrocare, we won’t victimize the person and will always respect their account.
To sum it up, let’s take care of each other and have a nice time together.
